Cristian Tomus is Chair of Enactus, Campus and Operations Coordinator at Green Office UvA and Computational Social Science student.

Tell us about your work

This year I am overseeing the evolution of multiple impact projects within the organizations (and degree) I am part of.

As Chair of Enactus UvA, I oversee the growth of the organization and I want to increase its visibility, to provide our members with a broader network and more resources they can use to develop their projects.

Our board also manages the development of six startup projects aiming to develop innovative solutions that tackle societal and environmental issues, making a positive impact in our society.

One of the projects, Coffee Bloom, aims to use spent coffee grounds to make a natural fertilizer as an alternative to unsustainable, chemical fertilizers.

As Campus and Operations Coordinator for the Green Office UvA, I work on the implementation of various sustainability projects on our campus to align our collective actions with our universities’ sustainability goals and policies. For example, one of the projects involves reducing food waste at the REC Cafeteria, and another is the implementation of more green spaces and community gardens on our campus.

As a Computational Social Science student, I work on a group project with the giant infrastructure developer BAM Infra, to identify what makes Mobility Hubs attractive to shared mobility users, and to propose interventions that would make shared mobility more accessible and popular to people.

What is your motivation?

I am driven by the necessity to take immediate action in solving issues involving our society and planet, and by my passion for uniting and working with like-minded individuals to pursue common goals.

Your vision

On my campus, there is a united community of students, business professionals, teachers, experts, companies, and associations. They all collaborate to find and implement ideas and innovations that create a positive impact, tackling societal and environmental issues. Our joint efforts at the local level lead to positive change in the broader society.

Supporting Factors

The people I work with and the network I am part of play a crucial role in helping me achieve my goals. I could not do any of this on my own.

I am surrounded by motivated and dedicated individuals and teams that give me the energy I need to do my work. The people on the Enactus UvA board and within the Green Office UvA teams provide me with a comfortable work environment and motivation to work harder. The network I am part of allows me to find opportunities and leverage points for collaboration, and to unite with other people to make it easier to pursue shared visions.
